Before he is even in office he has been put on this pedestal. This scares me because what if he lets us down? What if all his followers begin to find disappointment in the way his administration is run? Will they lose hope? I have this issue the whole thing about people no longer supporting our president after he makes a poor decision. I think that we need to support our government leaders for the purpose of them being our government leaders. That's Biblical. The Bible, in Romans 13, states that we need to submit to the government because the government has been appointed by God. So regardless of the decisions that President Bush has made during his administration, as well as the decisions that he will make until Mr. Obama takes over the White House, I will continue to support him for this reason.
However, this doesn't solve my issue with all the paraphernalia. I think some people are putting all of their hope in our future president, and people will disappoint. As much as he has promised to bring change and hope, and with as much of a supporting as he has he won't please everyone. So someone will lose hope. Man is fallible, we mess up, we make mistakes, therefore putting our hope in man is not safe.
The only man that we could ever put our hope in is Jesus Christ, he is the only one that will never fully let us down.
However, the way it's looking though people are looking for Presdient Elect Obama to be their messiah. I am not calling Barack Obama the anti-Christ. A lot of people are looking for him to save them from economic problems, to save them from the war, to save them from countless political things. However, no one is ever worried about what happens when all the material items are gone. Obama may be able to save us from this recession. He cannot save us from much that extends outside of his presidental term. The way it's looking people are wanting Barack Obama to be lifted up, and he is becoming an idol. Whether he wants it or not he is. I went around Moreno Valley driving yesterday and couldn't walk the distance of 4 stores in the mall without seeing his face, then I left drove not even a mile before I saw an Easy Up selling shirts with his face of them. All Bush got was a movie making fun of him, while he was still in office. So let's not put all of our faith into Mr. Obama making him into our idol he is only a man.
So if I didn't get my point across the way I intended: as Christians I fully believe that we need to prayer for and support our president with every day that he is in office and every decision that he makes. As American's we need to recognize that no matter what decision he makes and regardless of how we feel about it he is still our president.
And I am stealing this picture from Sean. However, I am just putting the link:
